SURVIVING THE FIRST YEAR OF DENTAL SCHOOL

Updated: Dec 16, 2022

Hello everyone!!

I'm a first-year student in dental school.

Although my first year is almost over so here, I'm to give you some tips on how to survive it.

Yeah so, I know it can get really stressful as now you are going to be studying much more than usual. My first advice for u all will be

  • manage study and fun together.

Listen guys u can't study 24/7, right?? And we deserve to live our lives so just don't over work yourselves.

Work on your hobbies at least once a week whatever you like.

  • make 'useful' friends.

When you are in the dental school there will a whole lot of different types of people around you.

First try to learn and observe the students around you and try to make friends which will help you around in studies. Friends who will motivate you not put you down.

  • buy only the main textbooks.

See when you are in your first year, you'll get to many recommendations for your study material. So, I advise you to buy only the textbooks teacher recommends.

Like for anatomy I refer to BDC

Don't look for short cuts okay.

And for the exams try to make notes and charts for easy access.

You can also download your textbooks online. (Well books are more preferred than PDFs though! 😅).

  • don't mess with your seniors.

Listen guys your seniors are going to help you out trust me.

Yeah, some of them are mean but don't take it to heart just don't mess with them. Try to talk politely or don't talk at all to them. But you should take their help.

  • don't put off your assignments.

See this one is the most helpful one okay!

Don't ever put off your assignments.

Please, do them on time don't take it to last minute.

and lastly,

  • take notes.

While you are in class even if u don't like it, please do take notes. The note taking will force you to concentrate more and will be helpful for your exams too.
